Thanks for pushing this issue. ATM I agree that adding a dependency as suggested would be the cleanest and straightforward solution and I am happy to push a PR that implements this. |

Python 3.13 removed the dead battery mailcap and it is now offered on PyPi. This is temporarily workaround. Related: pazz#1632

I think it is worth to keep this open and think if you want to keep depending on an old deprecated battery or maybe see if there is a fork of mailcap that is healthy and kept been maintained. |

Writing a custom mailcap file loader that doesn't rely on the standard library is a good solution. Additionally, I think a non-standard extension of loading mailcap from alot config dir or
$XDG_CONFIG_DIR/mailcap
