The parfor loop is used for Matlab 8 and for Matlab 9 only a normal for loop is used. This improves the performances in Matlab 9 by a factor of ~100 and in Matlab 8 by 10x.

this is a rather general issue right?
could you check if one need to apply this change also elsewhere in the code?
