Features related to privacy, moderation, and reputation.

This page describes Discourse features that allow the site administrator and users to control access to content in various ways. The bullets below are copied from meta.discourse, contributed by @riking.

  • You need at least Trust Level 1 to send private messages
  • Private messages are basically topics, except with a list of people allowed to participate.
  • You can add people to a private message at any time once you're TL2
  • Private messages can be read by admins (NOT moderators!) if they click on a link to them (this enables stuff like making sure people aren't running a CP ring via your forum)
  • "Secure Categories" are those where everyone does not have the See permission. They get a symbol added in front of the category name everywhere, to signify that they aren't public.
  • By default, there is a Secure category named "Lounge" where only Trust Level 3 and higher can participate.
