Glide generation causes timeout of page load

When changing a lot of assets or publishing a new page (doing anything that causes glide assets to generate again) and then loading the page for the first time, I get a 504 Gateway time-out on my production server.

Server config is almost the same as ploi's default, just with Static Caching added.

I do have glide caching active as otherwise image loads were taking ages.
