Raster layer after applying StretchToMinMax contrast enhancement algorithm:

Overall range of colors is preserved, but intermediate shades are lost. Solved by manually opening layer properties and clicking Apply, but not programmatically (.e.g. .triggerRepaint() or iface refresh ):
