@Arcanemagus Behavior is the same with editorconfig disabled and in atom --safe mode. I noted that auto-indentation was disabled for language-ruby and enabled it, but the behavior was the same. I should add that this is Atom 1.8.0.
If the behavior is the same in safe mode, then it has nothing to do with this package. Since you mentioned Ruby, I'm guessing this is a problem with the language-ruby package, you might look into atom/language-ruby#7.

Inserting a newline does not put the cursor at the proper indentation level, with or without the "Auto Indent" setting enabled.
