Gnome shell 3.4.2 (Debian Wheezy stable) compability broken between 2 commits

Commit ff74023 works fine with gnome-shell 3.4.2-7:amd64 on Debian stable (7.0, wheezy).

But the next commit, e91afe2, does not for some reason. "Error" is reported. (Is there a log where I can find more info to add here?)

I see that the latter contains the 3.6 upgrades. Perhaps there were non-backwards compatible updates made on purpose? (And me failing to find that info.)

Unfortunately 3.6 made incompatible changes to the way extensions need to interact with the shell. I really should tag between incompatible commits, but I've been using github's automatic merging. Theoretically as gnome 3 becomes more mature this shouldn't happen in the future.
