Compiling Talos from source

I have come a long way if I may say so myself, but I am stuck on how to include a custom kernel in a custom installer or image.

I use Harbor local registry.
I can edit, compile and push Talos image and installer to Harbor.
I can make iso's, put on usb and succesfully boot them.
I can run talosctl upgrade and point to my local registry. A Talos test node will validate the image and reboot succesfully. Upper left corner will show 1.9.2-dirty after reboot.

At this point I have three repo's cloned from which I work:

• ~/git/talos
• ~/git/pkg
• ~/git/extensions

From what I understand is that a custom kernel is compiled from the pkg repo. I can run a make menuconfig, save it and compile from that repo.

From the talos repo, I can also run make kernel initramfs, which I assume are only default kernel without any customizations. I assume these are only used for talosctl cluster bootstrap? Either way, I can't run make menuconfig from the talos repo to customize a kernel.

So as for the question: If I successfully compile a custom kernel in pkg repo, how do I include that in a custom image?
