The following is a set of guidelines for contributing to MANUela and its components, which are hosted in the MANUela Organization and MANUela Development repositories on GitHub. These are mostly guidelines, not rules. Use your best judgment, and feel free to propose changes to this document in a pull request.

What should I know before I get started?
This project and everyone participating in it is governed by the MANUela Code of Conduct. By participating, you are expected to uphold this code. Please report unacceptable behavior to [email protected].
Note: Please don't file an issue to ask a question. You'll get faster results by using the resources below.

MANUela (MANUfacturing Edge Lightweight Accelerator) is an implementation of an IoT/Edge reference architecture with Red Hat technologies that can be customized to meet specific business requirements. The full code is open-source and available on the MANUela Organization and MANUela Development GitHub repository. You can use it as a demo or as a starting point for a commercial product, and deploy a pre-built solution into your OpenSift environments in minutes. MANUela (MANUfacturing Edge Lightweight Accelerator) includes the following components/features:

components/iot-software-sensor - A software simulated sensor, implemented with Spring Boot, and capabilities to simulate

sensor data. You can configure each sensor type through the application.properties file. The sensor sends the metrics to a MQTT broker.

components/iot-frontend - A Single page application, implemented with Ionic/Angular, to visualize the sensor metrics in realtime, alerts etc. Connects via Websocket to the iot-consumer component.

Tekton - We use modern OpenShift Pipelines based on Tekton for building, testing and deploying the MANUela components.

There are a few conventions that have developed over time around components:

When we make a significant decision in how we maintain the project and what we can or cannot support, we will document it in the MANUela Concepts documentation.
This section guides you through submitting a bug report for MANUela. Following these guidelines helps maintainers and the community understand your report.
Before creating bug reports, please check this list as you might find out that you don't need to create one. When you are creating a bug report, please include as many details as possible.
Note: If you find a Closed issue that seems like it is the same thing that you're experiencing, open a new issue and include a link to the original issue in the body of your new one.
- Use the MANUela Organization repository to create a bug.
- Perform a search to see if the problem has already been reported. If it has and the issue is still open, add a comment to the existing issue instead of opening a new one.
Bugs are tracked as GitHub issues.
Explain the problem and include additional details to help maintainers reproduce the problem:
- Use a clear and descriptive title for the issue to identify the problem.
- Describe the exact steps which reproduce the problem in as many details as possible.
- Provide specific examples to demonstrate the steps. Include links to files or GitHub projects, or copy/pasteable snippets, which you use in those examples. If you're providing snippets in the issue, use Markdown code blocks.
- Describe the behavior you observed after following the steps and point out what exactly is the problem with that behavior.
- Explain which behavior you expected to see instead and why.
- Include screenshots and animated GIFs which show you following the described steps and clearly demonstrate the problem.
- If the problem is related to performance or memory, include a CPU profile capture with your report.
- If the problem wasn't triggered by a specific action, describe what you were doing before the problem happened and share more information using the guidelines below.
Provide more context by answering these questions:
- Did the problem start happening recently (e.g. after updating to a new version) or was this always a problem?
- If the problem started happening recently, can you reproduce the problem in an older version?
- Can you reliably reproduce the issue? If not, provide details about how often the problem happens and under which conditions it normally happens.
Include details about your configuration and environment:
- Which version of OpenShift you're using?
- Are you running CRC? If so, which version are you using and which operating systems?
- Which components do you have installed?.
This section guides you through submitting an enhancement suggestion for MANUela, including completely new features and minor improvements to existing functionality. Following these guidelines helps maintainers and the community understand your suggestion and find related suggestions.
Before creating enhancement suggestions, please check this list as you might find out that you don't need to create one. When you are creating an enhancement suggestion, please include as many details as possible.
- Perform a search to see if the enhancement has already been suggested. If it has, add a comment to the existing issue instead of opening a new one.
Enhancement suggestions are tracked as GitHub issues. Create an issue on that repository and provide the following information:
- Use a clear and descriptive title for the issue to identify the suggestion.
- Provide a step-by-step description of the suggested enhancement in as many details as possible.
- Provide specific examples to demonstrate the steps. Include copy/pasteable snippets which you use in those examples, as Markdown code blocks.
- Describe the current behavior and explain which behavior you expected to see instead and why.
- Include screenshots and animated GIFs which help you demonstrate the steps. You can use this tool to record GIFs on macOS and Windows, and this tool or this tool on Linux.
- List some other applications where this enhancement exists.
- To contribute, use GitHub Pull Requests, from your own fork.
- Follow the styleguides
All submissions, including submissions by project members, need to be reviewed before being merged.
The reviewer(s) may ask you to complete additional design work, tests, or other changes before your pull request can be ultimately accepted.
If you have not done so on this machine, you need to:
- Install Git and configure your GitHub access
- Install Java SDK (OpenJDK recommended)
