Skippy is ignoring the background setting

This will probably not get answered, but I wanted to add semi transparent, black background on full screen, behind skippy. I typed
background = orig mid mid #00000080
in the [general] section of skippy-xd.rc file, but there's still no background.

I also tried using picture for background, so I typed this:
background = 1920x1080 orig mid mid #000000 /home/paulj/Documents/bg-for-skippy.jpg
But it also didn't work.

Is there any way to fix it? Everything else changes, when I change values in config file.
