New release on PyPI?

setuptools-scm 8.1.0 has been released on May 2024. It would be useful to have a new release with the changes on main.

I'd like to propose using setuptools-scm for Mercurial dev but we would need a new version.

My PR about using setuptools-scm for Mercurial (https://foss.heptapod.net/mercurial/mercurial-devel/-/merge_requests/1207) is now kind of ready (i.e. waiting for this new release).
