Dear people,
It appears that the symbol of are is 'ar' in UCUM. However, that is incorrect, it should be 'a'. I know that that would be ambiguous with the (same) symbol for year, for which reason I would recommend to omit the entire symbol or replace it with 'are', the full name of the unit.
