<p>在我們設計 Java 系統的時候，有時候需要利用一些工具來查看資料庫的資料，是否如同預期的查詢、新增、修改或刪除。通常商業用的資料庫都會釋出所謂的資料庫管理工具，但是 一些 open source 資料庫的管理工具就顯得輕薄，不足以讓我們自由地應用與查詢，所以利用一個方便且通用的資料庫是我們想要追求的。</p>

<p class="MsoNormal">歐洲政府單位近來不約而同擁抱開放源碼。英國伯明罕 (Birmingham) 議會剛結束長達一年的 Linux 桌面試驗，宣佈計劃成功並將持續增加開放源碼軟體的使用。法國議會則計劃在明年 6 月開始，使用執行 Linux、Firefox 瀏覽器與 OpenOffice.org 的桌面電腦與伺服器。</p>
