########### Lean Ops Main philosophy
* Don't be a cargo cult-ist ops
* Follow big corps way of doing sounds cool
=> BUT end large corps need over powerful tools, and such tools finish to be hard to live with
* Yes big tools tutorials are always done in 5min, but look at the documentation size: is it a good idea to choose a tool because of its 5min tutorials if the documentation is 500 pages long?
* Even if you are using only the basics, in the end you will HAVE to deal & understand the more advanced features because they will "polute" the basics
* complexity came from linking powerful tools, each one for a specific topic
* it nightmare = nb over powerful tools ²
* in the end you are loosing time to do your real job & build really fun things
* I (Jean Gabès) did build such a over powerful tool (shinken solve 99% of the monitoring topic), and it's a real success to large corps
* but I know it's too much to lot of small teams!
* Learn from the real world manufactoring (Toyota & co): they did reduce the cost of operation/production thanks to the Lean Manufactoring
* remove all the "muda"(useless) from your systems
=> We need to transform us into Lean Ops: use "just enough" tools
* Don't try to solve problems you don't have! (nor will have in the near future)
* why use scalability tool if a VM is 90%idle?
* why setup high availability if it's not business critical ? (backup are enough)
* lot of issues are not technical and must be managed before unicorns only problems
=> Solve day to day real world use cases and stay in this philosophy
=> If you are not using at least 70% of a tool features, change your tool.
* It's too much for your needs, and you will loose time in the end
* The unix philosophy: It's dead. Deal with it.
* Lot of small tools can be a nightmare to live with
* Setting complex tool that you only few (and maybe only you) can handle
* reduce the efficiency of the whole team
* hurts your enhancement (you can't move because you can't be replaced!)
=> less tools, more humans
=> Use transverve tools, that is focus on topics integrations instead of one topic completness
* Yes there are far less suchs tools in the Open Source world:
* because it's harder to do (the dev must understand numerous topics)
* over powerful features are buzzing quite "easily". Powerful topics integration won't.
* much tools are done nowadays to have an enterprise edition, so to be sell to big corps only
* most of transverse tools are only focus on large tools integrations: they can only reduce a bit of complexity, but will still be difficult
=> it nightmare = (nb of powerful tool)² / 2 => still difficult
* OpsBro is such a tools focus on solving day to day real world case on 6 topics:
* service discovery
* automatic detection
* monitoring
* metrology
* configuration automation
* system compliance
