Currently, application metrics are tested using an in-memory exporter, while JVM metrics are tested using a log reader. There's no technical reason for this that I'm aware of, and having consistent handling for this set of tests would make things much simpler. The JVM tests, then, should be modified to use the same exporter that the application metrics tests are using.
