Sometimes the audio does a "crack" or "click" sound thats quite loud and could damage the speaker #38
Comments
This phenomenon comes and goes, it has to do with the sound module's power states, I just ignore it, in the beginning it was very annoying but now it sounds more like a Pinephone's hallmark. I am using the speaker mercilessly in maximum power with no problem. |
Does that means it's a hardware issue ? |
It is solved with software, I haven't heard the clicks for weeks now, back in May 2021 it was very annoying, but on the hardware level there are many issues with the power, the AXP power chip, the USB hub etc which affect the communication with the modem too, I don't remember getting any clicks on Phosh and Ubuntu Touch. |
I am still getting the clicks on boot and shutdown (PinePhone Pro, wasn't the case on my PinePhone). |
@AgentSmith0 it is normal since the chips change power states, the Pine devices are always in experimental development, the problems come and go all the time, if you have a specific problem that you are interested in then try to understand how the specific mechanism works, some problems can be circumvented on a high level with scripts and others need lower level coding |
Im not sure where does this lands, on the distro or the driver.
Im using the latest published factory image as of now Manjaro-ARM-plasma-mobile-pinephonepro-factory-20220311.img.xz
every now and then (quite frequently) the device does a crack sound (seemingly when playing a sound or maybe changing settings).
I used to had that issue on my pc very long ago, with the first iterations of pulseaudio. Its like a change of settings on the device that sends a spike. That spike i know to be cause of damage of the hardware.
Im not sure if this distro is using pulseaudio or pipewire.
It usually happens before playing a notification,
(sometimes after plugging the usb, usually when changing volumes and that little beep/boop sound plays)
while booting, and almost always when shutting down.
sometimes while rotating the screen (why i dont know)
almost always while changing the profile of the device (from real audio to phone calls and vice versa)
