Using dark / light mode toggle breaks the toggle and breaks background

Description

On a clean installation, the dark / light mode toggle breaks the toggle and until refresh. Behavior observed on Firefox 133 and Chrome 131 in guest mode.

To replicate:

(1) Press the toggle to switch to light mode. Observe background is broken. Refreshing at this point restores background.

(2) Press the toggle again to switch back to dark

(3) Observe that dark mode does not actually return (neither does background). Refreshing at this point restores both.

Nevermind about the issue, already fixed in #4553

You can test in dev once it builds or this will be in the next release of course.
