I do not understand the issue here.

Well, if you have a look at

datadir/default.properties

Line 84 in d828c40

ldapScheme=${LDAPSCHEME}

you can see that we use the ${LDAPSCHEME} env var.

Here in

datadir/cas/config/cas.properties

Line 16 in d828c40

cas.authn.ldap[0].ldap-url=ldap://${LDAPHOST}:${LDAPPORT}/
the ldapscheme is hardcoded
