title: "Frequently Asked Questions"
---
## Where can I find data?
Finding data that will help you answer interesting questions is often one of the biggest challenges. If you're not sure where to start, try some of these resources:
- Search Google with "(data OR api OR csv)" appended to your search, e.g. "olympics (data OR api OR csv)"
- Try using Google's dedicated [Dataset Search](https://datasetsearch.research.google.com/)
- Look for Wikipedia pages related to your topic. Many include data tables and data sources.
- Search [Kaggle](https://www.kaggle.com/)
- Many public organizations have data portals allowing access to their data
- [US Government](https://data.gov/)
- [City of New York](https://opendata.cityofnewyork.us/)
- [National Park Service](https://www.nps.gov/subjects/gisandmapping/tools-and-data.htm)
## How do I think of an idea for a data visualization, model, or app?
- Start with a question or curiosity you have about the topic and then try to find data that would help answer that question
- Try finding inspiration from [r/DataIsBeautiful](https://www.reddit.com/r/dataisbeautiful/), the [NY Times](https://www.nytimes.com/spotlight/graphics), [538](https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/), or past Mastery Quests
