I do have a bunch of mp4 video files, originating from my phone. When they're imported to "Photos" app:
they are not being correctly shown on "Videos" tab - it's just a big black box with a film icon, but no thumbnail
they cannot be played inside of "Photos" app
you cannot move them to be a part of any "Event"
whatever changes you do to description or tags, are not being written back to files, even though I do have "Write metadata to files" setting turned on and that works for jpegs
Steps to Reproduce
Use the latest public Elementary OS release (in a virtual box)
Import the mp4 video file into "Photos"
Try to open that from "Videos" tab
Expected Behavior
MP4 video files, thanks to mobile phones, are widespread and being used all the time. They should be supported the same way, how all the photo formats are being supported right now:
to generate a thumbnail
to be able to view the video without leaving "Photos" app
to be able to "attach" them to become a part of any "Photos" event
to be able to modify metadata (currently tags and comments are not being written to mp4 files and just stay inside somewhere within the "Photos" database)
Just in case, I didn't have a single issue to play the same MP4 file with using such players as VLC or Dragon on the very same system, the same exiftool is quite capable to assign and read custom EXIF tags for this MP4 format.
OS Version
6.x (Odin)
Software Version
Latest release (I have run all updates)
