Dark checkers make it impossible to crop images with dark background with alpha transparency #710

What Happened?

With PNG images that have a dark background with transparency it is very difficult to use the crop tool.

Here is an example image:

This was a screenshot taken on macOS and I want to crop out some of the drop shadow.

But as the following screenshot shows, you cannot see where the drop shadow is:

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Take an image with a dark background that has some alpha transparency
  2. Open in photos
  3. Use the crop tool

Expected Behavior

It would be nice to have an option to toggle the checker board between light and dark checkers so that for some images you have to option to switch to a light checker board to make cropping easier.
