Datadog would like to host! #51
Comments
We JUST agreed to host the DesignX Community on the 29th. One week earlier
would be absolutely perfect since I’ll be in town, but if not next month or
any time in the future we are stoked to host

@sboak <https://github.com/sboak> Hello! Thanks for offering to host!
Would you be interested in hosting our August meetup? I'm aiming for August
29th or 30th ideally. Let me know if that works.

@sboak Ack thanks for the info. If we did it the week before would you be available to host 22 or 23 August? And do you have someone at Datadog who would want to present too? For September, when are you next in town? We'd probably want to do it the first or second week of September if we pushed it to then. Thanks! |
The few weeks around this date are all booked up except for the first week
of September, and I'm worried about Labor Day and my inability to be there
that week. Can we try for the next one in October/November?
We do have a couple of potential talks:
1. The designer and/or front-end developer who launched our design
system work can talk about the process of getting it going here. No
title/precise topic yet but an honest/messy process talk
2. A talk I've been mulling: Datadog has (and I personally have) been at
the center of the DevOps movement since it began almost 10 years ago, and
we've learned a ton about how teams evolved in response. There is a lot
that the DesignOps movement can learn from this. It's a more in the clouds
and less tactical talk, but IMO there are some strong indicators for where
this movement will head

@sboak Okay let's shoot for early November, since we alternate between happy hours and talks. DesignOps could be good since we haven't covered that topic yet... also of personal interest to me since I'm also building a Design Operations team at GitHub :) |
Awesome! We can get it on the books any time. November 5–9 is looking
pretty clear, as is Nov 12–16

I am overseas from the 9th so would prefer to go for November 6th or 7th if
that works for everyone?

I just realized the midterm elections are on Nov 6th, which I think makes the 6th a non-starter and worries me a bit about the 7th. That said, happy to move forward with Nov 7th |
Ah good point! I can do November 8th if needed. Or we can do the week of
19-23 if you have availability?

If you can swing it the 8th would be great. Nov 19–23 is Thanksgiving week
so attendance would likely be really low. I can get the ball rolling here
to book it

I've booked November 8th on our internal calendar. it can still be changed, but this seems like the best overall fit for us if you can accomodate it. |
I think November 8th makes sense! Happy to lock that in!

We've already got the space booked. I know it's a bit early to start
advertising but lots of folks here are excited to know we're hosting :)

Once we've locked in the dates for the October happy hour, I'll put that and a "save the date" event up for the November meetup to start getting folks excited. Regarding the talks, as you may know, we usually have 3 x 10 minute talks, but sometimes they go a bit longer, and we have also had 2 people presenting together from a company several times too. So if you think you and the front-end developer could do a good talk together then that's fine with us too. |
Hi @sboak - I wanted to check in with you about the upcoming event.
Given this info do you still feel good about sticking with this date or would you like to move to later in November? Let me know, and we'll start locking in details. cc @chesleya |
Ah, I hadn't seen that DesignOps Summit was the same day. We saw that Netflix is doing a thing that night too https://netflixinnyc.splashthat.com/. Datadog actually has an internal hack-a-thon the same day on top of that, so we're competing for space with our own team. We could push back 1 week, to either 11/13, 11/14, or 11/15. The following week is Thanksgiving and I know many are gone, and after that we're all at a conference. If any of those 3 days work we can do it. Also, are you coordinating all the talks? should we plan to give one? |
I'm going to be in the UK 11/9—11/18 so I won't be able to do the following week. 11/27-11/29 would work for us, or 12/4-12/6 (unsure when you're at a conference). FYI we've hosted events early December before and still had a good turn out. If these dates don't work we can postpone to January and see if another host is available.
I'm talking with some potential speakers, but I would like someone from Datadog to be one of the speakers. We usually have 3, 1 from the host, 2 from other places. |
11/27–29 a lot of us are in Vegas at AWS Re:invent. I just checked the calendar and it looks like 12/4–6 is clear |
Let's go with Wednesday, 12/5 if that works for you? |
Done |
@broccolini our bizops team needs to do a 15–20min review of meetup procedures with you. Do you have some time this week to do that? If so what's the best way for them to reach out to you to coordinate? |
Hi Stephen,
I'm Chesley, I help out with the DSC meetup and was going to touch base
with you about set up today. I could do a call anytime from 4-6pm tomorrow.
They can email me at [email protected].
I will send over some more info today/tonight as well.
Best,
Chesley

Thanks Chesley, someone from Datadog should be reaching out to you in the next day or two |
We'd love to host a NY DSC event at Datadog's office in the New York Times Building (41st and 8th). We can fit around 120 and are happy to provide all manner of food and beverage. We have great events and IT teams that can provide A/V and even record if it's valuable.
