The first release included a description section of the voting process with a minimal infographic. This unfortunately was not sufficient enough to explain the process to new users and also led to the page begin overloaded with information.
It's a fairly complex matter to simplify, so I recommend to create a dedicated explainer page for the onboarding purposes. This page would be accessible from the top navigation bar. It would contain two sections. One being more down-to-earth and communicating the "Why's" – why do we have this voting system, what is it for, what problems does it solve for the users? etc
The second section is the "how" – the technicalities. How does the voting system work? For this we'll use new infographics (currently in production for marketing use, will be opted). Key parts of the infographics will also be animated (e.g. to display the direction of the process, highlights etc). In order to ease the user, it should be divided to at least three slides.
First slide describes the voting session in the higher level, what the sort of machine (metaphor) consists of and how the process flows. (Upgrading + Voting phases and the Blockchain + Intervals).
Second slide will provide a bit more digged in description and infographic regarding the Upgrading phase.
Third slide will provide a digged in description and infrographic regarding the Voting Phase and outcomes.

(Note this is very raw still)
As this is very early level approach, looking forward for any feedback and suggestions.
