Format without on-d-calendar-date-selected

I'm connecting a text input to the calendar, but in order to have a 2 way bind I have to call on-d-calendar-date-selected which calls a function I have to define, which then sets the same variable only formatted.

It would be really nice not to have to have this tiny JS function just to format the date.
