How to Comment: Operational Framework of the Digital Asset Policy Proposal

This framework represents our good-faith suggestions on a U.S. regulatory framework for digital assets. We encourage your contributions to this discussion about the role of digital assets in our shared economic future. You can read the entire proposal on our website here: https://www.coinbase.com/digital-asset-proposal

If you do not already have a GitHub account, create one here: https://github.com/join. You need to provide an email address and create a username. Once you join, you will be able to provide edits, suggestions, and join the discussion to further collaborate with other community members.

How to Provide General Comments

To provide general comments, click “Issues” at the top of your screen. Click the “New issue” button. This will open a new screen. Write a title and input your comment in the body of the text. When you finish, click “Submit new issue.”

You can reply to other comments by clicking on “Issues.” Locate the issue you would like to comment on, then scroll down to the bottom of your screen and add your comment into the text box. When complete, click “Comment.”

How to Provide Line Edits to Individual Elements of the Framework

To provide line edits to the individual elements of the framework, click on the “README.md” file, then click the pencil on the top right corner of your screen. This is analogous to “Track Changes” in Word or “Suggesting” in Google Docs.

This will open the file editor. Select the text on which you want to comment. Propose your modification in the editor. Scroll down to the bottom of the page. Provide any additional commentary you wish on your proposal and then label your proposal at the bottom under “new branch.” When complete, click “Propose changes.” This will create what is known as a pull request” in GitHub.

You can also comment on someone else’s proposal (referred to as an “open pull request”) by clicking on “Pull requests.” You’ll see all the other comments there. Open the pull request you would like to view. Then, follow the same steps as above.

Please be respectful of your fellow community members.
