I have Qphotorec installed in Mageia 9 and when I open it normally, it does not allow or detect mounted disks, and it asks me to open as root.

I have configured in the Plasma Kde menu to open it as another user (in this case root), but I think this should already be configured like this in the application.

A normal user who does not have this knowledge may find that the program does not work correctly.

QPhotorec can be used by a non-root user to analyse raw image files and encase/ewf files (if encase support has been enable during compilation).

If you think Qphotorec packaged for Mageia should run as root by default, it may be better to ask the packager to change the default for your distribution. Provide him with the exact modification you have done.
Please provide the link to the Mageia bug report.

Ah so I suggest the dialogue Qphotorec shows can be improved by including the given clarification:

If you want to operate on disk, please launch Qphotorec with root privileges.

QPhotorec can be used by a non-root user to analyse raw image files and
encase/ewf files (if encase support has been enable during compilation).

Greetings!
