Auto sync failing in 2.2.6

After updating to version 2.2.6, the sync function would no longer run automatically. I tried some basic troubleshooting, including setting some different sync intervals, clearing the cache, double checking permissions, reviewing the FAQ, and restarting my device.

There were no errors, and a manual sync was successful.

I'm running the latest Android 15 release of GrapheneOS.

Uninstalling, installing version 2.2.5, and re-adding my feeds got everything working again.

Thank you for following up so quickly, @sunkup. I'm running standard from the F-Droid repo. I upgraded back to 2.2.6 and started running through your steps. When I got to step 4, the sync ran successfully.

That said, I decided to let it run a couple more times before calling it good. The first calendar feed (of 3) ran the sync approximately on schedule for a second run post-upgrade, and the other two ran, but they were late. Then the auto sync stopped working again entirely. I'll send the log.

I checked the logs, but could not find anything useful. I will see whether I can reproduce it with my own device and check the more elaborate logs of a debug version.

No luck. It works just fine for me. Since I was unable to find anything in the GrapheneOS logs I could take a look at your ADB logs if you are willing to record them. If you can record the sync logs with ADB of ICSx5 running in the background for a while and send them to us I might find some more evidence.

Hi @sunkup, I'm still having issues.

I performed a reinstall again this morning, and everything worked well (based on periodic checks) for about 4 hours before the sync got hung up again (I had it running every 15 minutes). I'll see about the adb logs, but it's challenging, since the phone is my primary driver.

Right, I am sorry to hear that. I can see someone else is also still having trouble (See #495 (comment)). I expect the same DeadObjectException occurs for you. It would be nice to have more logs, but we will look into this more in any case 👍

This is happening to me also with a Pixel 7a and Android 15. Since 2.2.6 I have to manually force the update of the calendars or it wont work by itself.

It did fail once for me, but continues to work again right after. See #495

Hi again, it's finally fixed. Seems like manually changing the sync interval and refreshing did the work. It's the firs time that since and upgrade I have to do this, it was awkward, but happy it finally worked.

Before doing this, it was not syncing at all. I had to manually force it every now and the to keep my calendars up to date.
