My sync interval is set to "daily" and manual sync works fine.
I turn on airplane mode when I go to bed and turn off airplane mode when I get up in the morning.
Unfortunately, even before disabling Airplane mode, ICS greets me with a notification (per calendar) that the sync failed (e.g. "Cannot resolve host: No address associated with hostname").
Apparently, the reason for this is that the background sync is started while Airplane mode is active. "Once a day" apparently tends to be at night. Because even if I synchronized manually at 10 p.m. the day before, the error message occurs, for example, at 2 a.m. at night.
Would it be possible to check if airplane mode is active before starting background sync? If airplane mode is active then delay synchronization (e.g. three hours). After the delay has expired, check again whether airplane mode is still active and delay again if necessary, etc.
Another solution would be an optionally adjustable time window in which synchronization does not take place (or to which synchronization is limited).
