I've been using a self-hosted docker version of whoogle as the default search engine for my home computers for a while now. Next I'm wanting to start using it on my portables (iPad/android/laptop/etc) so I've added a DNS record and an entry in my nginx proxy manager (NPM) to get access from the Internet when I'm away from home.
But now that my whoogle is public facing I was hoping to put some type of protection on it so I'm not in danger of being flooded with search requests. I thought just using the WHOOGLE_USER/PASS varibles would do this, but then I'm constantly needing to type in a username/password everythime I do a search, and I can't find a way to pass the user/pass inside the browsers (firefox/brave) search engine setup. Same goes for using the NPM access control which is also just HTTP Basic Auth.
I'm sure there are many others who have public facing whoogle sites so how do y'all stop the teaming Internet hordes from using your little selfhosted Whoogle and eating up all your bandwidth?
