Student Docker Connection

I want to build a container but I don't know what information to put here? I have the student license!

I'm sorry but the procedure to create a student docker image based on windows is not available to general users at the moment since it is highly experimental. I'm sorry!

Thank you! - I want to dockerize my python application so people can easily run it on different machines. It involves using pyansys and opening the GUI. pushing an STL into ANSYS along with other data and in the future simulations? I'm new to docker so I'm not sure what is possible!

Opening a GUI from a docker container is rather uncommon. In many cases, it is not even possible (unless you use things like NoVNC and such).

I believe that legally, only Ansys (and approved partners) can distribute MAPDL (which is needed for PyMAPDL). If I were you, I would just pack the python part (pymapdl + GUI + extras), and leave to the user how he/she provides MAPDL. PyMAPDL can detect local installations, and working with MAPDL on docker is straight forward.

But packing all together is a bit different/complicated. Up to you though!

ok thank you, that's useful! - From my understanding if a user has an open session running locally and my python part is running on docker it can connect to that session?

yes, as long as you link both ports when running your docker. For instance:

docker run -p 50052:50052 .... mapdl:mytag
