So instead of having to write:

    ylim = [
        df2.sql('select approx_quantile(mu_ratio, 0.001) from tbl').as_item(),
        df2.sql('select approx_quantile(mu_ratio, 0.999) from tbl').as_item(),
    ]

we could just write

df2.sql('select approx_quantile(mu_ratio, 0.001), approx_quantile(mu_ratio, 0.999) from tbl').as_list()
