Welcome everyone to the fortnightly meeting of the DEIB working group, a dedicated collective within the WordPress community focused on championing Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging as we pave the way toward establishing an official team.

DEIB project at CloudFest Hackathon

Birgit like to collect your thoughts on a project, she is currently preparing for the CloudFest Hackathon. Thanks to @karmatosed who sparked the idea. It’s about evaluating ways to standardize accessible and inclusive documentation guidelines across all make team blogs. Currently, there are guidelines buried in various handbook pages.

One of the ideas behind the project is to have a checker built in into the make blogs to highlight possible issues and educate with improvement tips. https://hackathon.cloudfest.com/project/inclusive-language-checker-for-open-source-contributors/

We are also waiting for feedback on on the evaluation of adding the accessibility checker plugin as @alexstine proposed on https://meta.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/7269 — it wouldn’t make sense to reinvent the wheel in case the solution provided by @Amber Hinds is considered to be added.

Housekeeping / Announcements

Office hours in virtual coworking room on Zoom

Alternating to the text-based fortnightly meetings in Slack, we experiment with virtual coffee coworking via Zoom to learn and work synchronously on certain tasks. The link to the Zoom room will be shared in Slack in advance. The next virtual coworking office hours will be held on February 16, 2024 – 2 pm (UTC)

Call for Nominations for the Incident Response Team

Please take a moment to read the call for nominations for the Incident Response Team and if you know someone who may have the capacity and capability to volunteer for the IRT Team, please submit a nomination at latest February 14.
