I believe the status is that FreeCAD can export geometry with surface colours that can be read by Revit (note that revit reads surface colours as materials - which is a bit confusing, and frankly, incorrect, but it is the only way to get material data into revit)
BlenderBIM can also do this.
However since FreeCAD supports profile extrusions more natively and blender prefers plain meshes, the work required to make a blender IFC file editable in revit is a bit more, whereas freecad is easier.
