When adding sapwood area as a history variable to address issue 1266, I found that sapwood area is greater than basal area for the broadleaf hydro-deciduous extratropical shrub. I was running a regional case with the the old 12-PFT default parameter file (
fates_params_api.36.0.0_12pft_c240517
) over tropical South America, and the other shrub PFTs did not grow in this region, so I don't know if this is the case for all shrub PFTs.I don't usually work with shrub PFTs, but wanted to document this for anyone who does. It doesn't make sense to have sapwood area > basal area, of course, but I don't know if it is problem for the model or not.
