Work

I'm Robert, a Network Architect who recently joined a utility company in __Western Canada__ as part of a broad IT transormation. My role involves design and architecture across a wide range of network technologies, on premises and Cloud. I assist with setting the technical direction of the organization from a network perspective, and assist with translating business challenges into technical solutions. Peviously, I worked Value Added Reseller/Consulting firm/Managed Services Provider where my role involves me in the entire lifecycle of a project, from pre-sales, to architecture, implementation, day 2 support and beyond.

I'm a nerd at heart and love all aspects of technology including virtualisation, automation, and Cloud computing. I believe in breaking down silos, and in the value of being a well-rounded Engineer. Furthermore, I believe in the concept of Infrastructure as Code -- implementing the processes and concepts of the development lifecycle such as configuration management, version control, continuous integration, etc.

Self

I'm an __INFJ__, a __concrete sequential__ thinker, and I'm a ~~bit of a~~ __perfectionist__.

Originally from Leeds, England, I now reside in Western Canada, where the mountains meet the prairies. I'm a life-long Leeds United (Football) and Leeds Rhinos (Rugby League) supporter, and my Wife and I are both Calgary Flames (Hockey) season ticket holders.

I love Batman, macOS, Linux, virtualisation, Open Source, BIND, Vi(m), VS Code, Chuck Taylors, landscape photography, and the oxford comma.

Some of the vendor certifications I hold are: CCDP, CCNP Data Centre, CCNP Routing & Switching, and VMware VCIX(6)-NV.
