It'd make it more realistic and fun if the player's speed changes (lowers or gets higher) depending on the item that the player is holding. For example, snipers would make the player go relatively slow, while a wooden sword wouldn't affect the player's velocity.

With such a system, stealth and assault players would prefer SMGs and pistols because of their low weight, while more defensive players would prefer the usual rifles because of their damage. The shotgun will become a gun of tanks. So yes, it'd be good, less tiers and more specialization
Hmmm, thinking about it, i wonder how adding spread to ranged weapons based on current (read regular spread) and recent (read weapon stabilization period from moving to standing) player velocities could change the gameplay...
