I have everything installed and just want an easy way to test without changing the script. Unit is always cool and fan does not start on boot.

Try a script like this: https://danielflannery.ie/simulate-cpu-load-with-python/

You'll want to simulate high CPU load, which should increase temp and kick on the fan.

I'm using sysbench to stress my CPU. https://github.com/akopytov/sysbench
