In Jadeite for Dolphin, often it worked that you could use an existing image and use jadeite to load new versions of Rowan, RCS, or other required packages. Possibly Jadeite for Pharo is not mature enough yet but with first alpha it should become an issue. We should start thinking about supporting and testing this. My experience has been that there is no way to do any updates that will remotely work, but I'd like to think it has moved into some updates might work sometime. This should be verified and improved if possible, it's not a good look to require rebuilding the stone to get a minor bugfix.

If users are expected to easily update the standard gemstone projects in an image, then the $GEMSTONE/rowan3/bin attachDevKitStones.stone script .... or something like it will need to be used.
The functionality in attachDevKitStones.stone could certainly be made available within JfP and arrangements made to share the common meta data by adding additional Rowan support code ..
