Improvement Description
For modelling large (and long) glaciers, part of the glacier is situated at elevations where the local snow amount is not enough to keep the glacier stable. For these regions glacier movement is an important process and without including this process in the glacier modelling the lower part regions will disappear too quickly. The wflow modelling of the Vaksh catchment (including climate change scenarios) revealed this issue.
Implementation Description
We could use the following dataset (same spatial extent as dataset used now in hydromt_wflow): described in the following paper with data available here.
We could use the ice velocity values from this dataset directly, or for example parametrize a glacier flow based on slope and upstream area using these ice velocities. And would be good to check literature for modelling approaches.
