\s1 The Superiority of Jesus to Moses

\s1 A Serious Warning Against Unbelief

\v 11 Therefore, let us make every effort to enter into that rest, in order that no one may fall in the same pattern of disobedience.
\v 12 For the word of God \add is\add* living and active and sharper than any double-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, both joints and marrow, and able to judge the reflections and thoughts of the heart.

\s1 Jesus Our Great High Priest

\v 14 Therefore, \add because we\add* have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast to our confession.
\v 15 For we do not have a high priest who is not able to sympathize with our weaknesses, but who has been tempted in all \add things\add* in the same way, without sin.
\v 16 Therefore let us approach with confidence to the throne of grace, in order that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

\s1 A High Priest Like Melchizedek

\v 1 For every high priest taken from among men is appointed on behalf of people in the things relating to God, in order that he can offer both gifts and sacrifices on behalf of sins,
\v 2 being able to deal gently with those who are ignorant and led astray, since he himself also is surrounded by weakness,
\v 3 and because of it he is obligated to offer \add sacrifices\add* for sins ⸤for himself also, as well as for the people⸥\f + \fr 5:3 \ft Literally “as for the people so also for himself” \f*.
\v 4 And someone does not take for himself the honor, but is called by God, just as Aaron also \add was\add*.
\v 5 Thus also Christ did not glorify himself to become high priest, but the one who said to him,

\v 9 and being perfected, he became the source of eternal salvation to all those who obey him,
\v 10 being designated by God a high priest according to the order of Melchizedek.
\s1 Advanced Teaching Hindered by Immaturity

\v 11 Concerning this\f + \fr 5:11 \ft Literally “which” \f* ⸤we have much to say and it is difficult to explain⸥\f + \fr 5:11 \ft Literally “great for us the message and hard to explain to say” \f*, since you have become sluggish in hearing.

\v 13 For everyone who partakes of milk \add is\add* unacquainted with the message of righteousness, because he is an infant.
\v 14 But solid food is for the mature, who because of practice have trained their faculties for the distinguishing of both good and evil.

\s1 A Serious Warning Against Falling Away

\v 1 Therefore, leaving behind the elementary message about Christ, let us move on to maturity, not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works and faith in God,
\v 2 teaching about baptisms and laying on of hands, and resurrection of the dead and eternal judgment.
\v 3 And this we will do, if God permits.
\v 4 For \add it is\add* impossible \add concerning\add* those who have once been enlightened, and have tasted the heavenly gift, and become sharers of the Holy Spirit,
\v 5 and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the coming age,
\v 6 and having fallen away, to renew \add them\add* again to repentance, \add because they\add*\ef + \fr 6:6 \ft *Here “\add because\add*” is supplied as a component of the participle (“have crucified again”) which is understood as causal \ef* have crucified again for themselves the Son of God and held him up to contempt.
